Performances

The company has toured (4) evening length productions:

"Rome & Jewels", Harris' critically acclaimed, Bessie Award winning Hip-Hop Opera, was originally inspired by the "Westside Story" and Baz Luhrmann's film "Romeo & Juliet" and re-conceives Shakespeare original vision, placing it brilliantly on a hip-hop platform.

“Facing Mekka” weaves a landscape of music, movement, rhythm, sound and images that fuse together elements of African and hip-hop cultures and includes Harris’ stunning solo "Lorenzo's Oil".

RHPM’s “Repertory Program" showcases a vibrant collective of classic work from the past fifteen years including; Continuum, P-Funk, Students of the Asphalt Jungle, Endangered Species and Harris’ most recent choreographic addition which highlights the intricate house-dance style footwork featuring an all female quartet entitled "Breath."

RHPM brings "social" dances to the "concert" stage and celebrates the universality of hip-hop, seeking inspiration from other forms and performance art.  Rennie Harris remains a powerful spokesperson for the significance of "street" origins in any dance style. Described by The Inquirer as “Philadelphia’s greatest cultural export,” Harris has created works for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, The Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company. Voted one of the most influential people in the last 100 years of Philadelphia history by Philadelphia Magazine and he has been compared to twentieth-century dance legends Alvin Ailey and Bob Fosse.
